Sunday Goodies — February 7, 2021
Hello, friends.Hope you’ve had a great week.I have quite a few things prepared for you today. Excited to share - so let's just get right to it.
What I've Made for You
Book Notes
Indistractable by Nir EyalI did not think this book would be as good as it was. My expectations rose as I saw authors I respect giving it positive reviews. There are some powerful techniques in this book — and every one of those are well-reasoned and explained. Many of them I knew, but didn't know the full power of, until I read this book. I'd recommend checking out my notes on Tiny Habits as well — they have some connecting elements. Highly recommended book.👉 Read my notesThis Is Water by David Foster-WallaceAmazing speech. Highly recommended. You can also find it on YouTube.👉 Read my notes
Reading Recommendations
This past week, I've been reading lots of articles.
These are articles - or other types of content - that I've stumbled upon, and then saved using my
.
In some ways, I think articles beat out books.
You're writing something - often a short post - that should capture and serve the idea you're presenting in some edible form for the reader.
And you better capture the reader immediately. They read the first few sentences and judge your article - unless it has been recommended by someone whose curation they trust.
I think that's a good thing.
Not every article is worth reading.
I like to curate content. But I'm pretty critical about it. If it's not amazing, it's not worth telling anyone about.
There's a quote by Seth Godin which captures this rather well.
"
Remarkable doesn’t mean remarkable to you. It means remarkable to me. Am I going to make a remark about it? If not, then you’re average, and average is for losers.
" - Seth Godin (
)
So that's what I'll do here.
I'll remark about some pieces which I find worthy to make a remark about.
But first. Did you know that I already do this on my website? Even if you do, check it out:
.
Just click on the curated content tab. It's filled with content I found remarkable enough to eternalize on my website.
Back to it.
I consumed 73 pieces of content to give you these four pieces.
I hope you enjoy them.
Notion Tip: Quick Add
It's been a massive productivity hack for me to adopt what you see above. The Quick Add page.
The beauty is that it's incredibly simple. It's just three links; a link to each page you see under it.
But it's powerful. Because it allows me to click the + and add a page to those databases instantly.
Why do I do that?
Well. I've found that, for example, when I'm reading or writing something, I'll get some entirely unrelated thought or idea. Something that I should either consider or act upon later.
So I add it to my Thoughts and Ideas board.
And it's just a click of a button.
Then, I can push the thought or idea out of my mind and get back to the task at hand.
A short demonstration is in order.
“We like to think of our champions and idols as superheroes who were born different from us. We don’t like to think of them as relatively ordinary people who made themselves extraordinary.”Carol S. Dweck
To your success. Regards,
