Hey there.

I hope you've had a great week, despite the current situation. It would feel weird to not mention it at all: Russia is currently invading Ukraine. While I do my best to stay informed about the situation, I do not know enough to make any statements about it.

I am saddened by the situation. This is brutal. Nobody should have to suffer like this. War has always been nauseating and appalling to me. History has taught us the brutality of it. I had hoped to not witness it in my lifetime, but unfortunately, my wishes has no bearing on reality.

What I've made for you

Book Notes: The 10X Rule by Grant CardoneI was actually hoping for something different, but I can see why it became what it did. Slightly interesting to read.

Planning learning projects in Todoist

I'm trying something new right now.I have a goal to learn machine learning and AI. This is highly motivated:

  • I'm incredibly fascinated by the field,

  • It combines some of what I find most interesting in tech, knowlege work, and creative work, and

  • I have a direct incentive to work at it: my current (6th) semester project, and my (future) Masters specialization. Both are fueled by the two above points.

So I wanted to make sure I'm approaching it in the right way.Throughout the years I've collected many resources which I've saved.I watched some 'how to get started' videos and read some articles on the matter. This helped me get a map of the field—where to start, and how to best navigate to the frontier, given my current goals.

So I made a plan that I put on a Kanban board in Todoist. This is what it looks like 👇

So far, this has proven very effective. Of course, I'm all for revising the plan—if the need arises. It takes me from Linear Regression learning to Deep Learning, with a focus on breadth. After that, I'm planning to just read papers and try to replicate their findings. That should get me some depth.

I want to highlight my use of labels. I think that is the least obvious from the images.Labelling by resource type allows me to create a learning path with various types of learning material, but it still remains possible for me to group the labels and get lanes with them:

In short, my method is focused on practical implementation, but with deeper theory sprinkled in as I learn. To me, putting to practice what I learn makes it much more fun to learn.

It is a more inspiring battle cry to scream, “Die, vicious scum!” instead of “Die, people who could have been just like me but grew up in a different environment!”
