Hey there.I hope you've had a great week.

What I've Made For You

New article: How I Import Literature Notes into ObsidianImporting highlights and notes into Obsidian for processing can be a painful process without automation. So I automated it.

Back to School with Obsidian

I've started school again. I've been using Obsidian for a while, and I thought I'd upgrade the workflows and systems I have in place for school in Obsidian.

Here's what I have now.

My 'School' page isn't particularly noteworthy. I simply link to my semester notes. They aren't very noteworthy either, but contain information relevant to that particular semester. This includes linking to the individual courses and the semester project.

The individual course pages are more exciting. First, they're structured the same was as all my other projects. Except, some relevant changes, of course.

On the top of the page you see the metadata. Besides the shown metadata, there's also a 'Status' and 'Reason' property. Status just says 'In Progress', and the reason is what you see on top of the page ('I started this…').

The course is page itself is pretty bare-bones for now, as we have not received much information about it.

Each of my lecture notes contain the syllabus for that lecture, as well as the relevant material in to-do format.

Under 'Material', I link to my literature notes for the read material.

Now, the base content for the note will vary from lecture to lecture. Exercises will also be put here.

One of my favorite parts is the connection of the frontmatter metadata in lecture notes, like this one, to the course page. On the course page, as you saw, there's a Dataview table. This table grabs the lecture notes for that course and shows me their status.

If I didn't start it yet, the squares are all red 🟥. If I started it, I turn the squares yellow 🟨. As you can probably guess, if the task is finished, I turn the square green 🟩. This counts for each individual task, reading course material, doing the exercises, and creating flashcards.

In case you're wondering, this is the Dataview query to spawn the table:

Quote

The greatest misfortune is to not know contentment.

The word calamity is the desire to acquire.

And so those who know the contentment of contentment are always content.
